WARNING! If you plan to go to school in another state and want to eventually return to good old California, be aware that there will be many consequences.

So I had a job all sorted out in El Monte for when I return. I was supposed to start teaching US History and World History in the fall. Well, come to think of it, next month. However, some shit has gone done and I'm not sure if I will be able to keep the job. Its a long story but basically it all comes down to delayed processing in paperwork. I haven't lost the job totally. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I don't want to have to start the job search all over again. I need to be employed next year very badly.

I'm approaching my last week here in NYC. I'm pretty much done with all my finals. Just a couple of things left to do. I've started cleaning up my room too. I'm really excited. I miss California. I'm looking forward to my last week in NYC. I need to walk the Brooklyn Bridge, watch one more Broadway play and take one last long walk through Central Park. Maybe a dinner on the Upper West Side and a trip to MOMA. Not sure.

There is a new Jenny Lewis record out in September. It's called Acid Tongue. Can't wait!

    Until California kids!

    Records to consider:
    Black Kids
    Conor Oberst
    The Faint
    Lavender Diamond

New York City is very frustrating sometimes.

This Friday, I was at Strand (a bookstore) and I overheard some pretentious book store dude mention something along the lines of: I've never been to LA. Does LA even exist? I think its just some far away make believe land that someone made up. I just looked at him and smiled and headed to the register to pay for my new Steinbeck novel. I miss LA.

So I am just about done with summer session A. Classes end this Tuesday and I just have one final paper to work on. After this, I get a half a week off until I begin summer session B. I'm registered for two classes: Into to Special Ed and Women of the World. I would love to say that I'm excited about these classes, but I'm just ready to be finished. I'm so close to being done with grad school yet so far away.

Since last time I was here, I've had two ridiculous experiences in the city. First, on Friday the 13th, I feel down a flight of stairs on my way to my favorite Indian restaurant. It was totally hilarious, but my foot still hurts. Second, after waiting about 2 hours in line in extremely humid weather in Central Park, the free Vampire Weekend show was cancelled due to thunderstorms. With no umbrella, I was stuck on the Upper East Side soaking wet for about 2 hours. This again is another experience I will never forget.

I've been going record crazy lately. Ok all the time. This is some of the new stuff I've bought:
    Lykke Li
    The Chapin Sisters
    Lightspeed Champion
    Fleet Foxes
    Sam Sparro
    Does It Offend You Yeah?
    Veviter
    The Virgins

Listen to She & Him. It will do you some good. Zooey's voice has the power of soothing the soul. It's like hot chocolate with marshmallows on a cold rainy day.

There is some crazy June gloom/super humid weather thing going down in NYC recently and I'm totally not a fan.

As you have already probably figured out, I'm still in NYC trying to finish up my masters and credential work at Teachers College. It's been a long year. I will be finally done in August. Thereafter, its back to LA and a new job. If everything goes right, I should be working with LAUSD in the fall. I will be going back to LA briefly in July to figure out my job placement and all that good stuff.

I went to see Rilo Kiley last Monday at Terminal 5 in the city and the show was amazing. Rilo is always amazing. Jenny is heaven. They are playing at the greek in LA soon. If you have a chance to go please do. The greek + Rilo = heaven. I plan to see Vampire Weekend and Kid Sister next Saturday for free in Central Park. Since the weather in NYC sucks in the summer, the city provides people with all kinds of free stuff to do as a sort of compensation if you will.

Susan, if you are out there I am totally jealous of your move to Seattle. I'm totally addicted to Grey's Anatomy right now and I've fallen in love with Seattle. I need to go there sometime.

    Things to listen to:
    The Ting Tings
    Robyn
    Mates of State
    Santagold
    M83

    Enjoy!

There are days where I hate NYC, curse it and wish that I would have gone to school in LA where it's warm, people drive and Amoeba records exists. Then there are days like today where I am grateful that I have an opportunity to live here.

I took a walk this afternoon to a local park close to my apartment. It snowed this week and the park was a total winter wonderland. It was great. I played with the snow a little, took some pictures, and had some coffee. It was almost perfect.

School remains a struggle since I am now beginning my job search, which is another course in itself. It also does not help that I am being certified in NY state, but want to teach in Cali. I've already gotten word back from some schools in LA, which is promising.

Still totally addicted to LOST. My new best friend is my brand new shinny green ipod shuffle. The new Raveonettes record is amazing. It's a contender for album of the year for me. It's totally poppy and fuzzy in all the right places. A nice mix between the Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, and well, the Raveonettes. The new Goldfrapp record is out on Tuesday.

Next I'm off on a trip down the road of writing a paper on social justice and justice oriented citizenship for students. Fun!

Today was my first day of my spring student teaching placement. One word sums up the day: confusion. I hope all is straightened out tomorrow.

I'm slowly becoming addicted to LOST.

Song of the day: Breakin' Up (Hot Chip Remix) by Rilo Kiley. The sound is very different from the original. Hot Chip strip away the disco beat and cowbell in favor of moody beeps and glitches. Envision floating in outer space wondering why you have been cheated on. What I really like about this remix is that the laid back beat brings into focus Jenny's narrative. An example: "Betrayal is a funny crown you wear it well just like a king."

    Don't forget to vote tomorrow.
